Mr Berger de 911truth.org
Mr Berger what is your role exactly into the 911truth website?
I am the media coordinator or spokesperson for the organization since 2004.
In which way are you linked with the events of September 11?
I grew up in New York. As a child, my father took me to the city (as we refer to Manhattan) to watch the WTC towers being built. On 9/11, my cousin lived in lower Manhattan and was walking his dog when the first plane flew over his head and hit the north tower.
What is the exact position of the website you work for, concerning the theory of conspiracy?
Our website mission is posted here. We are an educational organization. We do not have any specific or general theories regarding the attacks. Our purpose is to educate the public concerning the lies and contradictions in the official government conspiracy theory.
The endless "War on Terror," massive deficit spending, radical changes in domestic and foreign policies, including curtailing the civil liberties of Americans, have been justified by the 9/11 attacks. And yet, the story put forward by the government of how the attacks unfolded without a response from our trillion dollar defense establishment contains hundreds of contradictions and outright lies. If we truly wanted to protect and defend the country, we need to know how our government failed to protect us on 9/11 in order to make effective changes to prevent any additional attacks.
Our duty as Americans consists in protecting our rights and standing up for the values that make America what it is. We should not sacrifice our freedom and liberty for a false promise of security. After all, the government repeatedly acknowledges that it cannot prevent another 9/11. We must examine how our government failed to defend the country on 9/11 if we are to secure the country from future attacks. Our Republic depends upon it.
Do you think, that the media, and new technologies enable the development of the theory of conspiracy? (Feel free to develop your answer)
New internet and media technologies present many challenges to staying informed. There is so much on the web regarding 9/11 that it is now almost impossible for the average person to gain any real understanding of such a complicated series of events. I believe internet and new media technologies have helped and hindered the general public's understanding. Most people do not have the time or research skills to know what is information is factual. All of the information we bring into focus comes from government reports, mainstream media sources, and vetted researchers. The new media technologies, and the old ones as well, make it very difficult to tell such an intricate and complex story. Without the ability to connect the dots and show the repeated failures, at every level of government, requires a great deal of time and focus.
Do you think the media uses some ways to make implicit propaganda through its video or the articles, for this theory? Against it?
I can speak from personal experience of how the media manipulates coverage of anyone who raises questions to challenge the official conspiracy theory. From family members to researchers, the media systematically ignores legitimate questions – for which we still do not have answers – and instead focuses public attention on the craziest theories and the people who promote them. When it comes to disinformation, nothing beats this topic.
I was just interviewed by Emily Wax of the Washington Post about Bin Laden's death. She is supposed to be a journalist. She asked what I thought of Bin Laden's death. I told her my thoughts and feelings about the event are irrelevant. They are not newsworthy. I told her she should publicize the FACT that the FBI's Most Wanted poster for Bin Laden does NOT list the crimes of 9/11. He is wanted for killing US nationals OUTSIDE the US. I suggested she call the FBI and ask them why he is not wanted in connection with the 9/11 attacks. When asked, the FBI spokesperson said that they have NO EVIDENCE to prosecute Bin Laden for 9/11. Both the Washington Post reporter and a reporter from Newsweek told me that they had never heard that – and yet, neither published that FACT. The Washington Post reporter changed the meaning of what I said to her in the interview. She took it out of context, put her wording in quotes, and attributed to me what she heard – not what I said.
In other terms, are we manipulated through new technologies?
Of course we are but we have always been manipulated by propaganda echoed by the media. Look up Operation Mockingbird.
The new technology makes it even easier to manipulate the public because very few people take the time to check sources when they read an article or view web pages. The overwhelming amount of information available to us now is wonderful. However, the new technology makes it very easy to spread propaganda. Propaganda works by misdirection and distraction. We have a finite amount of time. The sheer volume of information now available to the average person makes it very unlikely that they will be able to understand complex events without getting distracted or misdirected. You cn read a lot of garbage about 9/11 and not even know it.
More specifically, are the new digital devices, any important for the diffusion of this theory?
The new media help researchers find each other and collaborate. The new media technologies have also made it possible to archive pertinent news stories before they disappear. I began researching the subject in 2003. I very quickly learned that I must save every article, not just the link, because I began to notice that they would soon disappear. For example, the air traffic controller from Boston Center, who was the last person in contact with Flight 11, was quoted on 9/13/01 in USA Today {Associated Press was the source}saying,
Hijackers gained control of American Airlines Flight 11 around Gardner, Mass., said the employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Gardner is about 45 miles northwest of Boston.
Try to find the articles that appeared on 9/13/01 that had this text. The 9/11 Commission Report failed to mention that the air traffic controller for Flight 11 knew the plane was hijacked BEFORE it left Massachusett's airspace. I think that is significant but, today, you would never be able to find that piece of information.
On the other hand, the new media make it possible for all types of people to spout conspiracy theories without any supporting proof. It appears to me that most people can no longer tell the difference between a belief (such as a conspiracy theory) and a fact – the indestructible black boxes from Flight 11 and 175, that crashed into the WTC complex on 9/11, were never recovered, according to the 9/11 Commission. However, a firefighter and a volunteer had published a story 1 year BEFORE the 9/11 Commission Report was published, recounting how they took federal agents around the site—AND recovered 3 of the 4 black boxes [ Link]
To finish can you give us your general opinion about the role played by the new technologies and the digital world in the diffusion of the conspiracy theory? (Feel free to develop your answer)
The new media technology has been central to the diffusion of the government conspiracy theory and to those who challenge the government's inconsistencies regarding the 9/11 murders.
Thank you for your time Mr Berger.
